Letter From the President

December 20, 2007

While looking back at the great progress and achievements of 2007, we want to express our sincere appreciation for your generous support to the Asian Fund for Cancer Research. Without your continued support, AFCR would not have been able to achieve what has been accomplished thus far in the fight against cancer in Hong Kong and throughout Asia.

International Think-Tank Forum on Anti-Cancer Innovations and Global Collaborations

2005biofunding.jpgOctober 2005
Beijing, China

In 2005, AFCR, in partnership with the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and the National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR), organized a three-day international conference in Beijing. Over 40 speakers from China, the United States, Canada, Germany, and the United Kingdom plus over two hundred Chinese attendees participated in this “International Think Tank Forum on Anti-Cancer Innovations and Global Collaborations.” During the event, researchers at universities and research hospitals worldwide met with students and business leaders to discuss and address the current challenges in cancer research. Topics discussed included molecular targets and drug discoveries, antibody and immune therapies; genomics, proteomics, and their clinical applications; taking discoveries to the venture community; traditional Chinese medicines for treatment cancer patients; and life science opportunities in China.

In acknowledgment to the success of the conference, editors of the international cancer journal, Oncology Research, devoted an entire issue to the conference. Research discoveries presented by the speakers as well as the abstracts presented by the attending Chinese scientists were both published. Several cross-continent collaborations have been initiated as a result of the discussions that took place during the conference. This think tank conference provides an excellent interactive platform for scientists and business leaders to explore promising opportunities for collaboration.
